The Fall Farm & Field session includes four mornings over two weeks, for a total of 10 program hours. Families register for the complete two-week session.

This September, we're launching our first Sunray Farm & Field Homeschool Program with a special two-week fall session focused on trees, shrubs, soil, and the ecology of the farm. Over four mornings together, children will help us plant trees and shrubs that will become a lasting part of Sunray Community Farm while learning about how trees grow, how plants interact with soil, the wildlife that trees support, and the many roles woody plants play in a healthy farm ecosystem. Alongside planting, we'll explore soil and compost, insects and wildlife, decomposition, seasonal changes, and other ecological processes happening around us. And because Farm & Field isn't just about farming, we'll mix in plenty of creativity and hands-on projects too. Children may make signs for newly planted areas, create art using natural materials, work with simple tools, help with composting projects, collect seeds, investigate the farm, and contribute to other projects happening that week. Whenever possible, we'll connect activities across multiple days so children can return to their work, observe changes, and begin developing a real relationship with the farm.

A Farm You Get to Participate In

Farm & Field isn't just a place to learn about farming and ecology. Children have opportunities to participate in real, age-appropriate farm activities and see how their work contributes to the land and community around them. The trees and shrubs planted during this session will continue growing long after the program ends, giving children something they can return to and watch develop in future seasons. There will also be opportunities to bring a little bit of the farm home. Depending on what we're working on, children may go home with seeds, plants, produce, artwork, handmade projects, or other farm creations. Take-home items will vary and aren't guaranteed each day.

An Outdoor Program

Farm & Field takes place entirely outdoors. We believe experiencing changing weather is part of experiencing the seasons. Children should arrive prepared for cool mornings, warm sun, mud, light rain, and the other conditions that come with spending time outside on a farm. Programs may be postponed or canceled when conditions are unsafe, including thunderstorms, high winds, extreme temperatures, or severe weather.

For Parents & Caregivers

A parent or caregiver must remain on the farm or in the nearby designated area during the program. We provide a parent area with seating, Wi-Fi will be available next season, and complimentary tea, giving adults a place to work, read, relax, or connect with other homeschool families while the program is underway.

From 12:30–1:00 PM, families are welcome to bring lunch and stay for an optional community lunch together on the farm.

Fall Session Cost

2 weeks • 4 mornings • 10 hours

$120 per child
Additional siblings: $100 each

All activity materials are included.

Enrollment is intentionally limited to keep the group small and allow children to participate meaningfully in activities and projects.

The particular activities in each session are intentionally flexible. Farming is seasonal, weather-dependent, and sometimes unpredictable—and we think that's part of what makes it such an interesting place to learn.

A First Look at Farm & Field

This September program is our first Farm & Field session and a preview of what we're developing for next season. Beginning next year, we plan to offer four-week Farm & Field sessions at various points throughout the growing season, allowing children to experience the farm at different times of year and explore new seasonal projects, skills, and ecological themes. Families participating in this inaugural September session will receive priority registration for next season's Farm & Field programs before registration opens to the general public.

Cancellations, Refunds & Missed Days

Because Farm & Field is a small-group program with limited enrollment, registration reserves your child's place for the entire two-week session. Cancellations made at least 14 days before the first day of the program are eligible for a refund, less a $25 administrative fee. Cancellations made within 14 days of the program start date are non-refundable unless we are able to fill your child's place from a waiting list. Refunds and credits are not provided for individual days missed because of illness, family schedules, vacations, or other personal circumstances, and we cannot guarantee make-up days.

Farm & Field is an entirely outdoor program and will continue in cool weather, light rain, mud, and other normal seasonal conditions. In the event of thunderstorms, severe weather, extreme temperatures, or other conditions that we determine are unsafe, Sunray Community Farm may cancel or reschedule a program day. When possible, farm-canceled days will be rescheduled. If we are unable to offer a reasonable make-up date, families will receive a prorated credit or refund for the canceled program day. If Sunray Community Farm must cancel the entire session before it begins, registered families will receive a full refund.
